I need to write something

I seriously need to write something soon. Or stop calling myself a writer.

Maybe this would have made a better Twitter update than a blog post.

  1. Freewriting (or stream of consciousness writing) definitely helps me with writer’s block. If I can get the clutter out of my mind, I can usually find a great idea in there. Also, I’ve noticed that if I try too hard, nothing will happen. My best ideas come when I’m doing something other than writing. Always have to keep my phone on me or at least a pen and a piece of paper to jot a random thought down.

  2. I use mind mapping a lot. I think one thing that contributes to writer’s block is that people use things like lists and outlines that force them to think in terms of what comes first, then what, then what. But my brain at least doesn’t work like that… I’m not a linear thinker. My ideas jump all over the place. Mind maps give me a way to capture my ideas without having to put them “in order.” That really frees up my brain.

      1. I use a writing prompt every day….my favourite book is The Writers Book of Days by Judy Reeves, but you can use the technique with any book.

Pick up the dictionary, open the page, close your eyes and put your finger on the page. Open your eyes and use that word to write a piece.

Orrrrr, google writing prompts…there are loads of sites, some you can sign up to online to get an email every day. One I’ve used in the past is “One Word” 🙂

Orrrrr, use the first line of a book you’re reading…..

        The possibilities are endless 😉

        Xx

      2. Interesting. I have to say that most of the “prompts” I get come from sitting still and trying to quiet the monkey chatter in my mind. But I like the way the prompts you describe come from the active world. I’ll give it a try. Have you tried mind maps?

      3. Good luck! 😉

Yes, I have, but I find they only work if I have a specific problem, ie I don’t know which direction to go in with something. I’ve never really tried them with a random word or phrase. Will give it a go 🙂

        Thanks hon xx

  3. The funny thing is, a while back, I got the idea to post writing prompts on my blog once a week. I guess I’m not exactly the expert at this point, huh? Thanks for all of your great tips. Today I feel like the block is beginning to thaw. =)

  4. Hi, I do believe this is a great site. I stumbledupon it 😉 I
may come back yet again since I saved as a favorite it.

Money and freedom is the best way to change, may you be rich and continue to guide other people.

  5. I have been browsing on-line more than three hours nowadays,
yet I never found any fascinating article like yours. It’s beautiful value enough for me. In my opinion, if all webmasters and bloggers made just right content as you did, the web will likely be a lot more helpful than ever before.
